Fifty days from now we will go to the polls to cast our vote. So much rides on this election after the last eight years of despair that I wonder what John McCain is thinking. The time being taken by the media and the pundits to parse Sarah Palin has essentially diverted the real issues of these crucial days from the issues at hand. We are now have to worry about this woman and what she might do if she makes it to the White House. We think about little else. Who has mentioned the economy, the war, the national debt, health care reform or anything that we have assumed was the point of these candidate’s platforms. It has been my assumption that vetting a candidate was the job of the party considering the nomination. Not the public, not the media. And yet our valuable time and emotional energy has been hijacked by her antics of this woman and strange behavior, apparent since long before she was named VP candidate. Why does the GOP think the media should do the GOP’s job? What happened to the issues that were the talking points of this election?
I am angry and you should be too. All the stones have not been unturned nor have her bona fides been examined. Her religion, to which she is entitled, does not seem to be in step with reality. This is fine for a private citizen but not for one who will speak for the nation. Trying to ban books and punish librarians is not going to fly at the Library of Congress. Claiming that God and his son Jesus are directing the war effort has no place in our political system. GI’s may pray for an end to the fighting but I hardly think they believe Jesus wanted them there in the first place. I suspect they hope Jesus wants them home. And while we are discussing Jesus – why is a Christian Republic any more desirable than an Islamic or Jewish one? Or Hindu or Buddhist. Very little separates Sarah Palin from Mahmūd Ahmadinejād; they were both mayors and governors but he has a Ph.D. Scary huh? Aren’t religious oppressors and zealots the very people we are trying to keep from attacking our country. Isn’t that why we have Homeland Security, redition and waterboarding? Well, as Pogo said so aptly “we have met the enemy and she is us”. While the ice melts in Canada and the polar bear tries to live on land she maintains that global warming is a non-starter. That the Gay can be “cured” by prayer and that woman have no choice in reproductive rights. Is she good for the Jews? I don’t think she envisions Jews as the righteous beings lifted heavenward during the Rapture – they do not believe in the Messiah she believes in. Yet Orthodox Jews seem to love her – do they love her relationship with David Brickner? Did they even know about it? I wonder if lamebrain John McCain even knew the Pandora’s box he was opening when he let this holy rolling virago loose on the public. There is still time for the spin doctors to lay her off for some reason or another and let the RNC put a real person on the ticket so we can get back to the election. If not we can only hope that something is dug up that makes such a decision unnecessary. Something that makes it mandatory. And they had better dig fast.

It’s hard to believe John McCain actually picked Sarah Palin his own self for VP on his ticket. Someone much darker and far more savvy had to be the one. Someone who studied at the school of Rovian Double Dealing (see link below) and found a long shot to help him win the race. Sarah Palin is a ringer – using the Wiki definition (and there are many uses for the word) and in this case it’s an imposter. What is she posing as? A competent person, ready to take the second highest office in this country. Most pundits cite Aaron Burr and Spiro Agnew – with of course Dirty Dick Cheney, at the top of Bad VP list. But I suspect the Queen of Mean is going to reign for a long time as the worst one way or another. Yet the GOP Torquemadas -who burn DemocrAts for heresy – are …nowhere to be seen. “She is a babe, cute, a great speech maker, young, a soccer mom, a mother of a disabled child, and if she had remained a Catholic she could have run neck and neck with Mother Theresa.” Put it another way – she is about as in touch with this world of 2008 as Prince Charles is. But no one chose him. He gets the job no matter what; and at least he’s green.
Anyone else on the ticket would be on 60 Minutes tonight answering some hard questions. Not Sarah the Serpent – there is a “no interviews until she is comfortable and ready“. What the hell does that mean? She was a mayor and Governor and she crowed like a rooster at the GOP convention. Come on. Most folks would assume the no -interview blackout is simply because she is a loooooose cannon. Seasoned politicians can speak anytime, anywhere. In fact they love it. Why is there a gag order on Sassy Sarah? Is it because she can’t explain her line vetoes, moose gutting, oil drilling, polar bear bashing, special interests, budget deficit, creationist view of the 21st Century. About all she isn’t, is Holocaust denier and no one has asked that question yet. Oops.
When the world leaders speak of global warming is she going to leave the room or will she argue? Does she know Al Gore won a Nobel Prize for his stand on global warming. Are they afraid she will say something stupid about that? Or worse. Face it folks, those beauty queens want to win – if not by brains then certainly by stupid answers that the judges overlook because they want a babe – not a Rhodes Scholar.
The GOP plays by the rules they make up as they go along. They have for years and there is no reason to stop now. Distance themselves from Bush? What a joke; they loved them some Bush twice and made sure he got the Big Job in both elections. I’ll bet even Dubya thinks she’s joke. We know where Cindy McCain stands.
Keep digging media – you are bound to find something.

May I suggest that no matter what your feelings on PETA may be – you contact them with an expression of your disgust at photos of Smiling Slithery Sarah exulting over dead animals with the blood still dripping – in the presence of small children. Do you think she tans her own hide. I do believe that it would be just lovely to see her cook her own goose.

And you will enjoy the other posts on the site. These are Anne Kilkenny’s comments on Sarah Palin and they’re not very uplifting – but you judge. Having this creepy, extremist woman one heartbeat away from running the country is a hideous thought. Anne Kilkenny is my hero.

Do None Dare Call This Treason?
Why has this gotten so little mention in the press? Sauce for the gander is also sauce for the goose. She must have agreed with their platform or else why join? Was she perhaps seeing herself as President of that Country-state –
Palaska? This is a hard question and she needs to answer it. People like her because she’s a babe? That may be true – but she is a scary snake of a babe and as I mentioned a few days ago – beauty queens are mean girls.
Sarah’s speech may have roused a roomful of rich White people – she is part of the stuff white people like, but it terrified me. She was loaded for bear and she has public speaking down. But so did Hitler – yes I said Hitler and that’s exactly who I meant – that man could speechify too.
Let’s make certain that between today and the middle of October cooler, smarter people prevail in the GOP and find McCain someone appropriate to be his ticket buddy. Male or female – Just not Sarah Palin. No. no. no
Take the time to email your local paper and ask them to give Sarah’s party antics the same microscopic scrutiny that Obama’s church going got. Remind them of the Equal Time thing. And don’t ask. Demand.

Without bringing little Trig into this debate – as he is worthy of his own; let’s take a peek at what Gov. Sarah Palin has done to her family and in particular her eldest daughter Bristol in the last week by her bad decisions that include, lying, covering up and bad judgement. Factor in the fact that the Far Right Christian show runners are lapping it up like lemonade at a church picnic and you have a troublesome situation that focuses not on family and politics but Sarah’s ability to make thought-out, appropriate decisions.
Now, I suspect Sarah Palin was indeed embarrassed, ashamed and probably very upset when she first learned her daughter was knocked up at 17. Long before McCain came a-calling. But she also knew what she had was a small local dilemma that wouldn’t make too much of deal in Alaska – a couple of lines of omigods in the news and then Bristol and John could get hitched and sink back into Wasilla in relative anonymity. Trig’s birth in April hardly merited a mention even in the Alaskan news. Sarah didn’t really have to concoct too many lies and smokescreens – things happen, not enough church, not much to do for teenagers in Alaska…blah..blah..blah. End of problem. And then came John.
Yes, here comes the GOP presidential candidate and drops the run of a lifetime in your lap and you say, Yes indeedy and then you:
A. Ask yourself What would Jesus Do? and do it
B. Make full and verifiable disclosures
C You bite the bullet, swallow your shame and fess’ up
D. Make up a big fat lie and grab a baby blanket
Rather than spill the whole story about the baby, the next baby, the trooper, the earmarks, the line vetoes, the wholesale firing of government employees and her desire to secede from the Union, she started spinning stories forgetting that she also needed plausible deniability. Big, pregnant bumps are undeniable.
This is not a beauty pageant Miss Congeniality. I don’t think McCain knew Bristol was pregnant.
Let’s take a short peek, here at an aspect of The Religious Right. I think most religious families who flaunt their values and superiority flip out when it backfires on them. Due to the hypocrisy involved in many fundamentalist sects of organized religions – the folks do not usually practice what they preach and what they shove down the throat of others. We should expect daughters and sons of those families to save it for marriage and then do it like rabbits. Unwed motherhood is a huge sin in most fundamentalist faiths (except the FLDS). Even in 2008.
I don’t imagine Sarah is a very warm and fuzzy mother. Her behavior with Trig is very telling. But it seems to me trotting your family out on a national stage and in front of the world with a pregnant teenager hiding her bump with some baby in her arms must have been excruciating for Bristol. How could a mother do that to her child? Asking a pregnant girl to hide herself is just plain cruel and wrong. I don’t know what Jesus would have done – but I would have smote her on the spot. I presume Bristol was wrapped in a burqua until someone told Sarah she’s better come clean because it wouldn’t be a secret much longer. Most of what she has gotten in the media is what she created by being duplicitous, a liar and an opportunist with very questionable political values. Shame on you Sarah. I’ll bet John McCain would like to throw up.
Yet so many right wing women suddenly sympathize. Sarah’s family situation should have nothing to do with being Vice President and everyone knows it. But consider this and this is important. When you get “Jesus” you have to turn a blind eye to anythingyou thought and disremember everything you did before you were saved. I know this from experience. Born again women have no problem tearing their kid’s “bastards” out their arms and giving them away. I have seen it happen. First the riot act is read chapter and verse when the news of the pregnancy is found out. Then the hot baths and the triple pee on a stick tests. Abortion comes to mind but a condition of being saved is you must be willing to save everyone and everything no matter what. Did Bristol choose to stay knocked up. I doubt it. But knocked up she is and married in the cross hairs she will be – I don’t think it was in the plans however. So Sarah Palin is not well-acquainted with being politic. It appears she is in NO way being a heartbeat away. Didn’t anyone learn anything from Speak of the Devil Cheney? Okay, Dumb As Dirt Dan Quayle? Guess not.

Neither of Levi Johnston’s My Space entries are real. I thought so about 20 minutes ago, but I decided to double-check and they smell – like rotten herrings. I think they are spoofs or whatever they call those things – FAKE? LIES? Figures. It cannot be this easy to dig up the baby daddy right there on My Space. Maybe Levi is gonna marry Bristol, maybe he’s even the baby daddy – but it all seems far too staged. But you decide.

Another day of the Palin political saga.
FYI – Chris Kelly in the Huffington Post has nailed the Palin Baby mama Drama on the nose. I suggest you read it. I am trying to post it here but not having any luck so far.
Here is a whole new scenario for the Baby Mama situation. Has anyone looked at young, sweet Willow? She’s old enough and a pregnancy in a younger teen is one that would certainly be plausible unless there is convincing evidence to refute the suggestion. And it would be one you would want to hide at all costs. Girls her age rarely marry the baby daddy (maybe they do in the Far North) but Bristol and Sarah may be Red Herrings. It will take deeper digging but I am sure that some clever person – possibly myself even – will find Trig’s birth records and the doctor who delivered him. It might be fascinating to find out exactly whose amniotic fluid was tested for Trisomy 21. Who are Bristol and Willow’s and Trig’s pediatrician and who is the girl’s obstetrician? And I do allow for the fact even those record may be fixed or shredded. Until then – Sarah Palin does not strike me as very open, honest, forthcoming or exemplary as a parent, governor or VP candidate. And Levi Johnston sounds like a garbage mouth moron. (Check out his MySpace profile if it’s still up). He should be a clever and quality addition to the Palin clan.

Who knew it would get so good so fast. Before I go another agate here, is it just me or does Sarah Palin look like a young Anita Bryant as a person and Peggy Hill on King of the Hill as a cartoon? The glasses, the hair, the lipstick. Anyone who wants to weigh in on that is invited to do so.
What was McCain thinking or was he? Did they put the names in a hat and pick. Does he just have a soft spot for beauty queens? Beauty queens scare me. These are some tough, shallow women capable of the venomous bite with smiles that would fool Jesus.
So let’s start with the Babygate. The whole story stinks like a full Pamper. Medically it makes no sense and bears more scrutiny. I have done some checking and have this to start:“If you believe that your water has broken, you should contact your health care provider. If your water breaks and you do not go into labor, there is an increased risk for germs and for infection in your pregnancy. The more time that occurs between the time that your water breaks and the time that you deliver increases the risk to your baby of infection. If your water breaks and you don’t start labor but you are after your 37th week of pregnancy, your health care provider may wish to induce labor so as to reduce the risk of infection.”
This is pretty much standard advice and it is a caution I have received in both my pregnancies. It seems that a pro-life woman carrying a baby with Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) would take extra special precaution with her condition. Many airlines require medical certification for late term mothers to be – interestingly enough Alaska Airlines is not one of those carriers. But still – the stuff drips and is icky and airplane births are dodgy at best; with a baby who has genetic issues it must be a nightmare. At the very least, she put her life and her son’s in jeopardy by doing what she did. If it actually happened the way she said, it showed very bad judgement and a single-mindedness that is troubling. Oh and the lying. That too.
Now it is part of her instant legend that she is a go-getter and multi-tasker who bounced back to work 3 days after the baby was born. I could hardly walk three days after either baby. Leaky breasts, sore genital area, hormone and mood swings not to mention most mother’s desire to be with their newborn as much as possible – especially one with health problems. This is pretty much the norm. Bonding? Remember that? Who took care of Trig. (Why does Trig’s name remind me of Michael Jackson and his son Blanket and Roy Rogers?). Did they have a nanny? Did she take him to work? Did she telecommute? Simple questions and easily answered if her story is not made of whole cloth (I never actually did figure out what that means but…). I agree with the Daily Kos (http://dailykos.com) and I love the fact that he called her out on it. I too call her out on it. I think Trig is a apple from her daughter’s tree, not hers. And who is the baby daddy – any of the two babies in question.
Poor Bristol. Who appears to be not as sharp as a pistol. First she has Mononucleosis (aka Pfeiffer’s Disease) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infectious_mononucleosis. I can sympathize. I had it at 13 and relapsed again at 17. I would say 6 weeks is the average duration – it was for me in both cases only the second time I milked it good and stayed out of school for about 10 weeks. The first time I was as sick as a dog. So Bristol Palin- who should be on bed rest is out in the car having accidents? Well, assuming she had the energy and the strength for it – that is plausible but hasn’t been explained away by her parents so it is probably a lie.
Could this baby be Bristol’s son? Why not. The Religious Right does not like unwed motherhood at all. It catches them between a rock and a hard place. Cover it up or go to the clinic. I wonder what Bristol really wanted? Sarah’s abstinence position didn’t even work at home. Explain that away? It is inexplicable because even if she isn’t Trig’s mother – she still did the nasty and got knocked up. We think.
Sarah’s svelte beauty queen figure during pregnancy.? Didn’t happen. If she was pregnant when she announced it to her constituents I am Donald Duck.
So now we have an odd time frame. Keep up with me. Trig is born on April 18, 2008. I suspect Sarah went back to Alaska on short notice (via the Cape of Good Hope route) because Bristol went into labor. So ostensibly if Bristol is pregnant again (fool me once..) then she got pregnant in April (ouch – that had to hurt). Or she and her mother were pregnant at some small point at the same time? Or she saw how great her mother looked and felt in her pregnancy she decided she would do it herself.
So now what happens? Trig (who could be slightly small for his age) may be palmed off as Bristol’s baby in December. That’s a stretch. Or. Bristol will suffer the sadness of a miscarriage and be locked in a tower with her hair hanging down or both. John McCain and Sarah Palin meanwhile will flip out from the sex, lies and videotape.
This is like watching a train wreck. Schadenfreude at it finest. I must to educate myself about Troopergate now. But I am sure the Trig story is going to keep spinning and keep unraveling.

Again I was going to write part two of the previous post and move on to other things but other things moved on me instead and I find myself asking questions about why Rick Warren felt he had the right or need to pit the two candidates against his God in this presidential election in public. Life is imitating art too often for my taste – the current world situation has the qualities of a reality show writ large. The political stage in this country is part of it and I have to remind myself – at least – that this is real life – not reality TV.
Suppose the head of the RCA – Rabbinical Council of America – invited the candidates to a religious inquisition at a very large synagogue? Why not? Jews vote from far left to far right. What do you suppose the outcry from the general public would be “How dare they? By what right? It’s not their place? Pushy Jews”. I suspect the Jews who vote in this country realize that they have no business being in the business of Inquisition and quite frankly – in many ways – that’s exactly what Saddleback was about – a religious inquisition to see who is Godlier (to their standards) and thus more fit to run our country. Even the American RC Cardinals haven’t pulled this one – yet
“The First Amendment ensures that “if there is any fixed star in our constitutional constellation, it is that no official, high or petty, can prescribe what shall be orthodox in politics, nationalism, religion, or force citizens to confess by word or act their faith therein,” as Justice Robert Jackson wrote in the 1943 case West Virginia v. Barnette.” The 1st Amendment guarantees us the right to religion of any kind. It does not allow religion of any kind to be used as an influence on politics if I read this decision correctly. Why must our elected officials be asked to satisfy the needs of one group – no matter how influential they are? (And for believers in the Almighty – keep in mind he did NOT ask any questions at Saddleback.)
To put it another way – I do not consider myself a heathen because I am not a Christian. And I have no interest in being saved. Jesus seemed to believe he was divine – read The Book of John – nonetheless my sins are not his to forgive – that rests with me and my God and is personal or shared within my faith with others. Asking Jesus to be your personal savior seems like a blanket deal with far too much finger pointing involved. If Jesus elected to die for the sins of others – he has not proven to me that it was at God’s behest. Nor do I think it is at God’s behest that the leaders of this country have Christian bona fides. I think it should be personal.
I think Rick Warren and his ilk should concentrate on fixing what’s broken in their own lives and interfering less in the lives of other tax-payers who don’t have or want Jesus in theirs. And I think this should revert to being a government of all the people with equal justice under the law. Read history – anyone’s history and you will learn that religion – any religion obfuscates and makes worse almost any political situation it touches. Politics make for strange bedfellows indeed. As Momma Gertrude used to say -“Lie down with dogs – get up with fleas”. I reckon there were some itchy folks after Rick’s tent show.
