Sally Six-Pack has maneuvered herself between a rock and a hard place on
a melting ice floe.  Look at the multi-tasking list she has made for herself in this election:

Governor of the Great State of Alaska
Former Mayor of Metropolitan Wasilla
Former Beauty Queen
Soccer Mom
Hockey Mom
Mom of a Special Needs Child
Mom of a Pregnant Teenage Daughter
Mom of a Soldier
Committed Christian (not sure what that means but she is one)
Gun lover
VP candidate
Supporter of Secession for the Great State of Alaska
Show runner for McCain Campaign
Mrs. Malaprop.
Hottie
Hate Mongerer
Name caller
Faithful wife of First Dude (really?)
Cronyist
And, as of yesterday – an abuser of Political Power.

And if that’s not enough, last week, Sarah Palin made the cover of Newsweek this week and already folks are crying foul.  Damn – I know plenty of people out here in TV land that would run a Hummer over a baby just to make the cover of Newsweek.  What the hell is up with people – it’s a great close up shot – she looks age appropriate – in fact better, especially after five kids and all that sun damage out shooting caribou in the Great State of Alaska.  So what’s the problem.  Eeee-oooo – we can see a crow’s foot.  Someone forgot to Photo shop her into a glamour kitten. Well, here the rub: Sal cannot have it both ways.  Either she is a soccer mom married to Joe Six-pack – with a face untouched by Botox or she is a beauty queen who can’t actually wear heels and gloves at the same time.  And it’s not even BOTH ways – She wants it every way.  Check out her list above. Sarah’s acolytes expect her to be all those things and more and Sarah just eggs them on.  (Oh and plus a politician and one with a brain too.).   Well – in that case – you really cannot have it every which  way you choose.   The mere fact that Snarky Sally Six-pack  got  the cover of Newsweek should make her family and all her misguided followers thrilled.  If we are lucky – after Nov 5, we will not see her again for many a moon.

New accusations by the Washington Post of her hate speech and slur mongering fuel the fire too. The cover of Newsweek is the least of her worries and ours.  Sally Six-pack should have a sock stuffed in her mouth until the election is over and her presumptive running mate should keep running his and alienate even his closest friends on “both sides of the aisle.”  One sings, the other doesn’t.

Now that there is a hint of a peep that some GOP insiders are thinking Snarky Sarah should fall off the GOP ticket, I am waiting with bated breath to see if and how she does it.  Anyone who considers interaction with Canada a qualification for determining foreign policy has severe brain freeze. (And when was this contretemps with Canada/Alaska and why didn’t we know about it?)  As far as I can tell the closest the Snark has come to foreign relations is with her Kenyan houngan Rev Muthee.  She is a bad print of a smoke and mirrors magician who coughs on the smoke and walks into the mirrors while the rabbits run away.  Since neither Palin nor McCain know enough to get real – here’s  hoping the Grand Old Party pulls the plug on this fiasco without delay. Having a nice rack is not a qualification for much anymore since you can get a nice rack for about $5,000.  Anyone can buy those pricey Peggy Hill glasses and teasing hair is not actually a talent. Neither is having five kids. She should, drop – literally – out – ASAP.

As an aside; while McCain stood and repeated himself Friday night, I wondered what his running mate thought of the many times he mentioned “earmarks”.  Sarah’s earmark hobby doesn’t make her an expert on that either- pork barrel patronage is simply NOT kosher – even in Alaska.
So here we have a campaign concert in contradictions and a election rife with  three of the most un-PC components of hypocrisy alive and active in the United States.  Let’s review:

AGEISM:
McCain is too old.  What is too old?  Too old for what?  Why is he too old? When was there an age cap on running for office. Who declared this to be a fact? You know who was too old?  Strom Thurmond.

And if it’s McCain’s health that is used as a clean up for ageism – let’s not forget “Just A Heartbeat Away from Another Heart Attack” Dick Cheney – who is still just several pace makers away from the White House.  Or the handsome and down to earth Ronald Reagan who may or may not have spent a good deal of his two terms in the throes of Alzheimer’s and or naps. Every time they mention McCain’s 72 year old heart it’s a slur.  Like it or not.
RACISM:
Obama is Black.  Obama is not Black enough. Obama is too black.  Obama has a Black wife and two Black children. .  Obama’s mother was white.  What about his middle name?  Obama is an elitist person of color (That is just a crafty word for uppity.)  Obama went to Harvard.  Is someone jealous? Seriously, doesn’t someone with 9 houses seem elite?  Even on an ordinary day I would not use the word elite to describe Obama but I would consider the McCain’s nouveau riche and they probably think they are elite. I know most middle of the road Americans are pondering how it came to pass that a dark looking man is running for president.  Some are scared and will not say so.  Others are forming militias.  If Obama was white it wouldn’t matter.  He might even slip by if his father had been white and his mother black but it is what it is. This is racist and every time someone mentions Black in a “roll your eyes” tone of voice or calls him the N word among “friends” – it’s a form of slur.  Like it or not.

SEXISM
She’s a Woman.  She has children.  She grabbed the main chance.  She was middle-aged.  She went to law school.  She wore pants suits.  Her hair was wrong.  Who does her hair?  Who chooses her outfits. What about those hairbands?   Look at that rack.  She pre-menopausal, she’s menopausal, she’s dried up.
She hunts and shoots.  She stood by her cheating man. Could be Palin or Hillary –  they have vaginas in common  We do not want the Senate floor to be turned into the vagina monologues* This is all sexist and thus slurs.  Like it or not.

There it is, the clock ticking away like a bomb.  And as loyal Americans we stand true to our history, culture, hypocrisy, fears, attitudes, religions and bank accounts –  at it again.   Every four years.  Like it or not.
* With a thank you to Eve Ensler for the creation of the term.

Qualifications – Up Close September 14, 2008

I said I wouldn’t address Sarah Palin again – but if the New York Times can do it – well why not I.  This time will be a tad different.

When I was little girl – back at the start of Korean War and the subsequent Cold War, my dear Daddy re-upped and went back into the Army.  He was an officer and gentleman and a lush but he saw the Army as damn good way to get paid for drinking in the Officer’s Club and shuffling papers.  He envisioned us doing this in Belgium at NATO.  Imagine his surprise when his orders came and we were sent – in a state of shock – straight to Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska. Right about this time of year – I know that because the neighbors baked me a birthday cake before we had even unpacked.  Such was the camaraderie of army life back then. That and no war.

Thinking back on that year – which broke my parent’s marriage, my father’s military career and some furniture from all the parties we threw, my Daddy found time to make Alaska a learning project for me.  And though young, I sucked it all up like a little sponge.  My father informed me in adult terms that the Bering Strait was probably a landmass at one time and that now we were neighbors – by a two short miles – with Russia – our ideological enemy.  This is because The Diomede Islands in the Bering Strait number two spots on the map.  Big Diomede is Russian and Little Diomede is Alaskan. He painted a scenario where the military sat and glared at each other through spyglasses day and night – hoping for a false move.  I was impressed. I was further impressed by the Midnight Sun (which was actually the 2:30 a.m. sun) and the Aurora Borealis both of which he explained to me with a globe.  We had a large volcanic eruption in the Chugach Mountains that year so I learned about volcanic ash and lava and the earth’s thin crust.  I woke up to those beautiful peaks every morning. We had a moose hang his big old head over the railing of our quarters and it nearly gave my father a heart attack- combined with a hangover,  it is indeed a sight far worse than a pink elephant.  And quickly cured by Four Roses. I learned to love Quonset huts (school for a while) and still do. We got our produce from the beautiful Matanuska Valley where everything was enormous (and pricey).  The Matanuska Milkman came and dropped off our milk. I loved Anchorage which was like no place I had ever seen except on TV in Boston (which BTW, we did not have in Alaska; TV not Boston – actually we didn’t have either one).  I saw the massive Mendenhall glacier and it was very big then.  Sadly it’s getting smaller and at top speed. Then it will be gone.  I took a train from Anchorage to Seward  and I saw the Russian created cities of Juneau, Ketchikan and Sitka.  I marveled bout the wooden streets in Ketchikan and the gold mine on the side of a mountain above Juneau. I learned from my father the word Inuit and about the people who lived there first before we took over their snow and ice and primacy.  He spoke about whales and igloos and dog sleds.  We did not kill a single animal in that year. Living in a territory and not a state made me feel special.  The natural beauty made me feel honored.  I was not yet 6 years old.

Why do I tell you this – from memory, BTW – because I think, by these long past memories, I am as qualified to be on the GOP ticket as Governor Palin with one huge difference – Alaska is a land that cries out for care and love.  Not the kind you get in church or the Governor’s mansion, but the real kind that preserves Alaska’s dignity and its incomparable beauty and abundant natural resources  Ms. Palin has systematically made decisions that do not support those aims. Wasilla is butt ugly.  She helped.  If she will do it to Alaska – with lies, greed, vengeance and subterfuge – then imagine what she will do with 49 more states to pillage.  I’m not suggesting you write me in – I am simply suggesting that a grass roots groundswell needs to be created that will write her off.  Fast.

This is the short version until later.  However Voolavex readers must read http://mudflats.wordpress.com/  an Alaska political blog that is essential for this saga as it unfolds.  Another disgusting but important site is: http://www.twin-lakes-air.com/field-dressing-moose.htm.  The hand that changes the diaper can also do this – and line vetoes.

May I suggest that no matter what your feelings on PETA may be – you contact them with an expression of your disgust at photos of Smiling Slithery Sarah exulting over dead animals with the blood still dripping – in the presence of small children.  Do you think she tans her own hide.  I do believe that it would be just lovely to see her cook her own goose.

Another episode in this chronicle will appear later tonight.  Read the mudflats in the meantime.

Without bringing little Trig into this debate – as he is worthy of his own;  let’s take a peek at what Gov. Sarah Palin has done to her family and in particular her eldest daughter Bristol in the last week by her bad decisions that include, lying, covering up and bad judgement.  Factor in the fact that the Far Right Christian show runners are lapping it up like lemonade at a church picnic and you have a troublesome situation that focuses not on family and politics but Sarah’s ability to make thought-out, appropriate decisions.

Now, I suspect Sarah Palin was indeed embarrassed, ashamed and probably very upset when she first learned her daughter was knocked up at 17.  Long before McCain came a-calling. But she also knew what she had was a small local dilemma that wouldn’t make too much of deal in Alaska – a couple of lines of omigods  in the news and then Bristol and John could get hitched and sink back into Wasilla in relative anonymity.  Trig’s birth in April hardly merited a mention even in the Alaskan news.  Sarah didn’t really have to concoct too many lies and smokescreens – things happen, not enough church, not much to do for teenagers in Alaska…blah..blah..blah.  End of problem.  And then came John.

Yes, here comes the GOP presidential candidate and drops the run of a lifetime in your lap and you say, Yes indeedy and then you:
A. Ask yourself What would Jesus Do? and do it
B. Make full and verifiable disclosures
C  You bite the bullet, swallow your shame and fess’ up
D.  Make up a big fat lie and grab a baby blanket

Rather than spill the whole story about the baby, the next baby, the trooper, the earmarks, the line vetoes, the wholesale firing of government employees and her desire to secede from the Union, she started spinning stories forgetting that she also needed plausible deniability.  Big, pregnant bumps are undeniable.

This is not a beauty pageant Miss Congeniality.  I don’t think McCain knew Bristol was pregnant.

Let’s take a short peek, here at an aspect of The Religious Right. I think most religious families who flaunt their values and superiority flip out when it backfires on them.  Due to the hypocrisy involved in many fundamentalist sects of organized religions – the folks do not usually practice what they preach and what they shove down the throat of others.  We should expect daughters and sons of those families to save it for marriage and then do it like rabbits.  Unwed motherhood is a huge sin in most fundamentalist faiths (except the FLDS). Even in 2008.

I don’t imagine Sarah is a very warm and fuzzy mother.  Her behavior with Trig is very telling.  But it seems to me trotting your family out on a national stage and in front of the world with a pregnant teenager hiding her bump with some baby in her arms must have been excruciating for Bristol.   How could a mother do that to her child?  Asking a pregnant girl to hide herself is just plain cruel and wrong.  I don’t know what Jesus would have done – but I would have smote her on the spot.  I presume Bristol was wrapped in a burqua until someone told Sarah she’s better come clean because it wouldn’t be a secret much longer.  Most of what she has gotten in the media is what she created by being duplicitous, a liar and an opportunist with very questionable political values.  Shame on you Sarah.  I’ll bet John McCain would like to throw up.

Yet so many right wing women suddenly sympathize.  Sarah’s family situation should have nothing to do with being Vice President and everyone knows it.  But consider this and this is important.   When you get “Jesus” you have to turn a blind eye to anythingyou thought and disremember everything you  did before you were saved.  I know this from experience.  Born again women have no problem tearing their kid’s “bastards” out their arms and giving them away.  I have seen it happen.  First the riot act is read chapter and verse when the news of the pregnancy is found out. Then the hot baths and the triple pee on a stick tests.  Abortion comes to mind but a condition of being saved is you must be willing to save everyone and everything no matter what.  Did Bristol choose to stay knocked up.  I doubt it.  But knocked up she is and married in the cross hairs she will be – I don’t think it was in the plans however.  So Sarah Palin is not well-acquainted with being politic.  It appears she is in NO  way being a heartbeat away.  Didn’t anyone learn anything from Speak of the Devil Cheney?   Okay, Dumb As Dirt Dan Quayle? Guess not.

Thanks John.

The Sarah Palin Chronicles – Part 1 – Babygate September 1, 2008

Who knew it would get so good so fast. Before I go another agate here, is it just me or does Sarah Palin  look like a young Anita Bryant as a person and Peggy Hill on King of the Hill as a cartoon?  The glasses, the hair, the lipstick.  Anyone who wants to weigh in on that is invited to do so.

What was McCain thinking or was he?  Did they put the names in a hat and pick.  Does he just have a soft spot for beauty queens?  Beauty queens scare me.  These are some tough, shallow women capable of the venomous bite with smiles that would fool Jesus.

So let’s start with the Babygate.  The whole story stinks like a full Pamper.  Medically it makes no sense and bears more scrutiny.  I have done some checking and have this to start:“If you believe that your water has broken, you should contact your health care provider.  If your water breaks and you do not go into labor, there is an increased risk for germs and for infection in your pregnancy.  The more time that occurs between the time that your water breaks and the time that you deliver increases the risk to your baby of infection.  If your water breaks and you don’t start labor but you are after your 37th week of pregnancy, your health care provider may wish to induce labor so as to reduce the risk of infection.”

This is pretty much standard advice and it is a caution I have received in both my pregnancies. It seems that a pro-life woman carrying a baby with Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) would take extra special precaution with her condition. Many airlines require medical certification for late term mothers to be – interestingly enough Alaska Airlines is not one of those carriers.  But still – the stuff drips and is icky and airplane births are dodgy at best; with a baby who has genetic issues it must be a nightmare. At the very least, she put her life and her son’s in jeopardy by doing what she did. If it actually happened the way she said, it showed very bad judgement and a single-mindedness that is troubling.  Oh and the lying.  That too.

Now it is part of her instant legend that she is a go-getter and multi-tasker who bounced back to work 3 days after the baby was born.  I could hardly walk three days after either baby.  Leaky breasts, sore genital area, hormone and mood swings not to mention most mother’s desire to be with their newborn as much as possible – especially one with health problems. This is pretty much the norm.  Bonding?  Remember that?  Who took care of Trig.  (Why does Trig’s name remind me of Michael Jackson and his son Blanket and Roy Rogers?).  Did they have a nanny?  Did she take him to work?  Did she telecommute?   Simple questions and easily answered if her story is not made of whole cloth (I never actually did figure out what that means but…).  I agree with the Daily Kos (http://dailykos.com) and I love the fact that he called her out on it.  I too call her out on it.  I think Trig is a apple from her daughter’s tree, not hers.  And who is the baby daddy – any of the two  babies in question.

Poor Bristol.  Who appears to be not as sharp as a pistol.     First she has Mononucleosis (aka Pfeiffer’s Disease)   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infectious_mononucleosis. I can sympathize.  I had it at 13 and relapsed again at 17.   I would say 6 weeks is the average duration – it was for me in both cases only the second time I milked it good and stayed out of school for about 10 weeks.  The first time I was as sick as a dog.  So Bristol Palin- who should be on bed rest is out in the car having accidents?  Well, assuming she had the energy and the strength for it – that is plausible but hasn’t been explained away by her parents so it is probably a lie.

Could this baby be Bristol’s son?  Why not.  The Religious Right does not like unwed motherhood at all.  It catches them between a rock and a hard place.  Cover it up or go to the clinic.  I wonder what Bristol really wanted?  Sarah’s abstinence position didn’t even work at home.  Explain that away?  It is inexplicable because even if she isn’t Trig’s mother – she still did the nasty and got knocked up.  We think.

Sarah’s svelte beauty queen figure during pregnancy.?  Didn’t happen.  If she was pregnant when she announced it to her constituents I am Donald Duck.

So now we have an odd time frame.  Keep up with me.  Trig is born on April 18, 2008.  I suspect Sarah went back to Alaska on short notice (via the Cape of Good Hope route) because Bristol went into labor. So ostensibly if Bristol is pregnant again (fool me once..) then she got pregnant in April (ouch – that had to hurt).  Or she and her mother were pregnant at some small point at the same time? Or she saw how great her mother looked and felt in her pregnancy she decided she would do it herself.

So now what happens?  Trig (who could be slightly small for his age) may be palmed off as Bristol’s baby in December. That’s a stretch. Or. Bristol will suffer the sadness of a miscarriage and be locked in a tower with her hair hanging down or both. John McCain and Sarah Palin meanwhile will flip out from the sex, lies and videotape.

This is like watching a train wreck.  Schadenfreude at it finest.  I must to educate myself about Troopergate now.  But I am sure the Trig story is going to keep spinning and keep unraveling.

 It is all quite voola.

Stay tuned, please
