Long time gone.  And back.  For Bullroarer – yes Intelligence could have at least done a wrap-up movie to complete this amazing series.

The 2012 Crusade for President by the highly strange GOP has become a tent revival for the right.  And right in the middle is The Vagina.  Anyone who has one is a part of the dialogue.  The Gang of Four (is it four now) is not running to be the candidate for jobs or the economy or better housing or tax reform or anything else.  I assume that when blatant racism didn’t fly they must have spun so far out of control that all that was left was the Mystical Vagina.  Considering the number of children among them it seems they have been to the mountain and kept going back for more.

The recent surge of Sanctum Sanctorum ( who may not get the nod for the election but will surely be nominated to the Office for the Question of the Faith) is baffling to me.  Why would the most men support this man.  If you consider the number of Deadbeat Dads and children born without the “name of father”  filled in on birth certificates – why would they ever want to speak ill of choice and birth control.  I would reckon that more men have uttered the words “”how do I even know it’s mine?” than you would imagine, so what do they want?  Oh right – to be able to go to the vagina without any responsibility for what comes next.    Well, that is sort of a given anyway.  When I think of the word pillage I always think of the word rape and it is not an irony when you think about it – the Lysistrata camp is about denial of the vagina to get what you want or not want and the Pillage and Rape camp supports the use of the penis to wage fear and punishment – you kind of don’t have to be very smart to see the different vantage points at work here.

So we have this Gang of Four (or apostles as they should be known), religious zealots who are running for a GOP nomination on the basis of genitals. The LDS, two bat shit crazy Catholics and the Objectivist.  Is the entire planet cracking up?  Rolling on the floor laughing their asses off?  Probably – but the world – as we now know instantly – is largely populated by hypocrites, petty tyrants and demi-gods and so why are we even surprised?  Oh – did I leave out old white men?  The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  They can’t live with it and they can’t live without it – so take control of your own or suffer the consequences.  Just don’t ask me to lay down and participate.

When I see the Obama Family on TV or see President Obama I  usually smile.  Almost every time.  Because I simply cannot believe I lived to see this nice looking brown-skinned family in the White House.  It makes me feel clean somehow  – as if our country has considered the  good of the people and the nation and gone for a youngish, smart and hard-working chief of state .  I don’t think I’m alone in this  either and I hope not because he needs time and support to unglue the mess we’re in and make things better.  After an eight year ordeal with Mr. Bush – you’d think the GOP and its many sects of adherents would get behind him, tell their own people to support him and start to go forward in these difficult times.  (Drum roll – enter Steve Martin) But nooooooooooo.  And not just noooooooo, Nasty no!  Vicious no!  Name calling no!
 
 
No respect for the man at all, but that also means no respect for the office.  Every speech, meeting, movement , gesture is derided and dismissed instantly as a sign of what?   Oh, wait. “He’s a communist, he’s a socialist, he’s an unnatural citizen, he wants to steal from the rich and share the wealth with the rest. He thinks Americans – across the board, should have health care.  His very name is a traitorous betrayal – Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.  Now that’s not right.  He must be a Muslim and since he’s named after his black African father – he must have been born there too. He  has absolutely no use for the Jews and he hates whites in secret.  His wife’s arms are too bare and she is far too fit;  she is too tall, how dare she wear nice outfits,  and to top it off they have the same kind of dog that Ted Kennedy had.  That really is  over the top.  How dare he, she, they and the dog”.
 
I have a name for these people; these disruptive, Constitution chewing, greedy, mad tea partying GOP members.  I call them White Sheet Republicans.  I do not believe a single one even listens to the policies of or direction this president wants to take us.  I don’t believe they would even reject of it if it were suggested by a moderate GOP member.  They might mumble and growl and not agree with parts  – but I suggest the name calling would be minimal.  We must keep in mind that, under their protective covers they will do whatever it takes to keep their ball rolling backward.  They are extremely sore losers.   They believe  Sarah, Glenn and Rush are truth-telling, extreme intellectuals.  They gloat over lies that are told to discredit the current administration.  I would  suggest – that beneath their 800 thread count uniforms they make even make faces.  This is a group of vicious, nasty people.  People I would not break bread with.
 
 
But why “White Sheet Republicans“?  Are they ashamed of their party? Their platform?  Naaaah.  It’s because of what slips out far too often.  Because they feel the need to preface almost every nasty crack with, “don’t get me wrong, it’s not because he’s black” and because we absolutely know that it is very much because he’s black. And the proffered apologies are sung to the tune of Dixie.  Is it because he is not a son of the Stolen, descended from slaves.  None of these people’s people even stole his forebears – he has symbolically not sat in the back of the bus. So,  as much as he is rightfully embraced by most African-Americans – he really does present a unique and estimable president who speaks to all of us.   
Under the sheets, however, this doesn’t even register.  “”Bananas, chimpanzees, zoos, thick lips, nappy hair, doesn’t act or sound black “. (I suppose a disappointment to many in Dixie)  all creep out from under their hems. Of course it’s because he’s black.  God knows what a White Sheet GOP kaukus sounds like. 
 
 
Somewhere these White Sheet Republicans assumed  (probably before the Civil War) they would never have to worry about some Darkie running for president.   Both the old and new money, the right schools, the stiffest upper lip, the right address would keep that from ever happening.  Damn it, the Founding Fathers owned stolen black folks and there isn’t anything in the Constitution that says a slave can be president.  They are chattel. And so even the ones way down South living in the kudzu believe it too.  They may have tolerated Affirmative Action, but that tolerance did not include any action that could allow you to be President of the United States.  So when you read the vitriol and angry, personalized attacks on Mr. Obama – picture those White Sheet Republicans spinning out of control watching  Birth of A Nation, Bamboozled and all taking notes.  And be very concerned about all of them because they are definitely out of control.

Town and Gown Antics – Cambridge 2009 August 3, 2009

“On July 16, 2009, (Skip) Gates returned home from a trip to China to find the door to his house jammed. His driver attempted to help him gain entrance. Responding to a report of a possible break-in, a Cambridge police officer arrested Gates and charged him with disorderly conduct after a confrontation. Prosecutors later dropped the charges.[10] The incident spurred a politically-charged exchange of views about race relations and law enforcement throughout the United States.[11]”  Wikipedia.
 
I have been following the Skip Gates saga since it started; the many twists to the story are fascinating and while I don’t think any “dialogue” of race has been started I do think it’s worth noting how polarized people have become over this incident and for interesting reasons.  Here’s one:
 
I was born in Boston and have lived in Cambridge.  It is its own city with its own police force.  Having said that- the Cambridge PD are not hired by or from Harvard.  I think there are people that imagine that Cambridge attracts a better,  more educated kind of cop.  In fact,  the City of Cambridge draws their police form the same gene pool that Boston PD does.  Good or bad – these are local folks for whom the idea of being a cop is a good salary, respect (maybe), a nice pension, medical insurance, overtime, camaraderie, better than a gang and you get to carry a gun.  You become the law.  Not everyone should become the law.
 
Skip Gates is a distinguished Harvard professor who lives in a lovely home in Cambridge.  He was disabled at 14 and requires a cane to help him walk.  He has degrees from Yale and Clare College, Cambridge (UK).  He is a Ph.D.  His area of expertise is African American Humanities and related fields.  His list of honors is a long one. 
 
James K. Crowley is a sergeant with the Cambridge Police and is the responder to the call of a possible burglary in progress at an address that happened to be Gates home.  A passer-by called it in.
 
Did I mention it was broad daylight – around lunch time. 
 
I think everyone behaved poorly;  Gates was jet-lagged and Crowley was over zealous.  When Crowley established it was indeed Prof. Gates’ home he should have simply said – “sorry – we have to check every call for service” and left.  Gates should have cooled his jets. Crowley or someone in the CPD instead called for back-up.  He asked Gates to step outside.  Gates got really irate and mentioned Crowley’s “momma”.  Gates was then handcuffed and arrested for DISORDERLY CONDUCT”.
 
Let’s review – Crowley has the gun, Gates has the cane, Crowley is overwrought, Gates is furious.  A crowd has also gathered.  Look at all the police.
 
NB: Black people do not get treated by the police – in general – the same way white people get treated. This is not Black paranoia – this is experience.  Black parents train their kids how to act when pulled over by a cop.  Do you imagine white parents do?  The main idea is not to get hurt or worse and stay out of jail.  We have all heard of Driving While Black.  This is a real thing – not a Dave Chapelle sketch.  DWB embraces every possible experience Black people could have with the law, even when they are the victim.  Deny it, sputter, shake your head.  But I been there. And I am not the Black person in the car or store or house.
 
White folks don’t think this happens at all and Black folks wish it wouldn’t happen so often.
 
So the other day a woman, whom I know from my area,  and I were chatting and the subject of Skip Gates came up and she went off. Like a bottle rocket. And she was specific – she hated Gates; hated his interview on TV with Ethiopian Jews years back when she says he lied about these Jews  and hence he was an asshole , a liar and no good.  (She is a 60-something Jewish lady who says she’s a Democrat and loves the President).  The Cambridge Police, she claimed, were not like other police and were polite and reasonable and they were specially trained to be police in a university area and better than other cops.  And Gates lied and he did it.  And I just stood there. She was so angry and so adamant that I feigned “gotta go” and went.  We were not having what I consider a “chat” at that point.
 
So what have we learned through all this ordeal – including beer at the White House?  Did it become a teachable experience for  all of us who swim in this multicultural ocean?  I don’t know – I jumped in and got bitten by a shark.  I suspect she could have been arrested for disorderly conduct as her voice got louder – but no passerby called 911.  Just as well.
