What If Obama Quit September 18, 2011

What if there were simply no more Obama to oppose.  It’s much harder to oppose a white president – even a Democrat.  This is a letter I sent as to the POTUS and I sent it as a staunch supporter, a Democrat and   disgusted American.  Mr. Obama is not the object of my disgust.  Here, for your comments is what I wrote and what I sent.  Here is what I think:

Dear Mr. President:

I am a great fan of yours and I support you. Your presence in the White House in my lifetime has fulfilled a dream of mine and my father’s. He would be stunned and thrilled.

It appears to me that they loyal opposition is determined to undermine you and that this has been its agenda since January 22, 2009. Judging from the band of idiots currently on the GOP stage they cannot offer a formidable candidate of your quality. I am not surprised. All of it makes me furious. In my fury I created – in my head, a plan I would like to share with you. It may sound farfetched but at this point – but maybe farfetched is what is required.

I would quit. I would take your kids and wonderful wife, your mother-in-law and Bo and just say – no more.
I would hand it over to Joe and Jill Biden and disrupt the entire GOP. You can always run again (and win). But if you let these bozos know that you are not going to play their games anymore and walk on by – I suggest you would make a point so dramatic and devastating that God’s Own Party would quake for years to come.

They plan to make you a one term president. Don’t let them. Let this country get what it has been asking for your entire your term. Idiocy from the right. Your brilliant jobs bill will not pass. They wouldn’t pass Go to collect $200.

You are the wrong color, the wrong race, the wrong everything for these bigots. So let them have Joe and Jill and screw them.Let them know you are far too intelligent and educated to assist in their plan and they will have to do it without you. You have 14 months to go. Give the campaign money to Biden. If he doesn’t want it – decide who can and will and trip these idiots as they stand.

Don’t quit. Decline to participate any longer. Pass the torch and let them feel the lick of the flame.

At least consider it. At this point they would rather destroy this country than allow you to govern. So don’t be part of it.

Respectfully,

Each fabulous empire had it peak and then fell like the ones before it. Without this shit we would not have archaeology. Basic fact.

It is audacious, therefore,  for this country to imagine it will last forever as the bright shining symbol of all that is good and great on this planet. We refuse or simply fail to see ourselves reflected in the mirror of  history. Other countries learn far better from their pasts and accept truths we think were made true at Disney Studios.

As mentioned today in the media:  If the only reason for the GOP is to destroy the Dems -  a word of warning; they will  also fall on  their swords and we will have some kind of new and very scary government.  Our vaudeville Congress and “partiers”  have made us a joke worldwide for our retro revivalist politics, bigotry and narrow views.  Step back a little – We are no longer a great nation of hopes and promises kept – we are a nation of angry, obsolete petty snake oil salesmen – promises are made and the Loyal Opp makes it its job to see they cannot be fulfilled.

This is no longer a country I recognize.  One party systems fast become one man systems and in this country we hold our politics in such high esteem we barely pay attention to how many rotten apples sit in the halls of  Congress waiting for job.   It must smell like hard cider by now.  I would advise those  southwest of our country – those who think they can achieve the American Dream to pack warmer clothes and keep moving until they hit Canada.

It is hard to continue loving a land that gave so much to so many only to have shot itself in the foot over bigotry and imaginary fears. Those who fear the  “Nanny” state are the ones who need supervision and limits the most.  People who know what their limits are have no reason to fear anything in terms of grift, graft and greed.  It’s not the crime that brings regrets to the political thieves – it’s the getting  caught.  The United States is out of control.  And it scares me to death.

I would be stunned and relieved if even one of the loyal opposition to our current administration – instead of vehemently protesting “I am not a bigot” (sounding like you know who, who was “not a crook”) would say something like this:  “Well, I can’t say that I’m completely comfortable with having a black man as president.  I never thought it would happen in my time and it is such a new concept to me that it may be pushing buttons I thought I had overcome”.  Wouldn’t that be refreshing and honest?  Wouldn’t it help to explain why this president has been lambasted with some of the nastiest, vilest and unnecessary comments I have ever heard in my life about a sitting president.  For all the names I called Bush – and I did, I never imagined some of the things Mr. Obama has been accused of.   How does the GOP and its Republican zealots get anything else done?  Granted the arrival of Facebook and Twitter has brought us all to a new and possibly dangerous place in society.    And I suppose if we had these networks four years ago the fur would have flown then – but the people who actively hate our president are vitriolic and relentless.  If I had ever imagined Obama’s presidency was going to be a battleground of dirty fighting I might have continued my move toward Canada and said goodbye to Hollywood.

I thought by now I would have recovered from Rush Limbaugh’s screed on de black folks, de President and de Haitian disaster but I am not even close.  Is he a bigot, a crazy man, a crazy man bigot, an asshole, a piece of shit or all of these and some other things I can’t even imagine reading about in Grimms or Mein Kampf? (Yes – I said it).

Well – first of all and most important of all and down at the base of it all is color.  In this case black.   I believe, in my heart of hearts, that every morning white people wake up and think that the leader of the US will be white and when they realize it isn’t so, they flip out – in private and in public.  They just flip out.  They tear their white sheets and go insane.  Anyone who denies this is a hypocrite or has not had the fabulous advantage of living on this planet and seeing how black people have been demonized – after they built it all for ol’ white men.  If anyone can get past this self-evident truth, then maybe because Obama is the act that followed the clowns – no one can take it seriously. How could they really.   They are still recovering and laughing nervously at the last 8 years plus.  Worse still is that people all over the planet seem to really have some hope for the future of the future with this man in the White House.  Now if you subscribe to the conventional thinking that no one actually has any use for black people you will see how this conflict can arise.

And so, Haiti, some little half an island near the US with odd, but close ties to this country, gets hit by a huge act of nature; a 7.0 earthquake, that knocks them flat. Flat, literally.  Knocks them dead and lost and damaged. And as if that isn’t bad enough – this is a little, struggling country whose population is at least 80% black.  Are you beginning to see a theme here?

Tune in to Rush, the fat fool who gives junkies a bad name,  whohas the President of the United States of America cackling evilly and rubbing his hands together because he can really ride this one to …where????  How can this one be exploited?  Oh sure – there will be scams and the bad people will not be rehabbed by this disaster – but to think- worse – to say – no worse  – to broadcast that Mr. Obama is happy this happened because he can make points with black people – of all shades – is – what?  What is it?  What do you call this kind of thinking?  What we do know – what we can posit without much fear of argument is that now we KNOW that Rush Limbaugh is a bigot.  He is a big, fat, bigot.  From the instant he uttered his screed on Haiti he showed us his hand and he is holding a deck of race cards.  From now on every person who listens to him and likes his beliefs will have to also know that he is a bigot.  That if he says the sky is blue – he is a bigot.  That if he says he didn’t have a heart attack – he is a bigot and if you like his message then you have been listening to the utterings of a bigot.  What does this make you?  A bigot?  I don’t know – ask yourself but know this – Rush Limbaugh is a bigot.  He almost makes Pat Robertson look like…less of a bigot.

Taking stock of Stockholm and Copenhagen in the last week has led me to some conclusions that may not sound very patriotic, but honesty should not be usurped by mislaid love of country.  You can love your country without loving some of what is done in its name.   The same goes for your neighbor.

Copenhagen.  In order to speed greed you have to be able to use every tool you have to get there.  Greed is a global goal.  Or the spoils of greed.  And why not – I think we have reached a tipping point (thank you MG) where all the fingers in all the dikes are not going to make enough of an impact to save much of anything.  Sounds hopeless but it may be more truth than anyone can bear to utter.  I was green in the 70′s – what fun being laughed out of conversations about destroying the planet and the small steps that could be taken to slow this down. And if that wasn’t annoying enough – being green was expensive (as it is now) and impeded by the newest in living better through chemistry.  No one cared about Three Mile Island or Union Carbide or the Woburn Cancer Cluster.  A few (hundred thousand) souls were a small sacrifice for Big Biz to absorb in the pursuit of money. Collateral damage without even a war. That was 40 years ago.

We have made huge strides in our pursuit of the Money and the Brand.  As Pogo said “We have met the enemy and he is us”.  He is.  No one wants to lower emissions by charter.  If they sign up then they have to be responsible and we cannot have that and corporate sovereignty.    Copenhagen was not quite what we had in mind.  So while the planet slimes and slurps and melts and freezes and generally goes the way of a Styrofoam cup – there is good news too – we have found water on the Moon.  Get ready to play the collectible, limited edition of Lunar Monopoly.

Stockholm.  White tie is never unpleasant to see.  And President Obama looked wonderful and a little confused in his as he accepted the Nobel Prize.

But the point is this: Any president in 2009 has inherited 8 years of a war without a point. Obama is doing what Sadam-obsessed W should have continued to do when he deployed Oct 7 2001. Instead he drained our country of soldier’s blood to get an imaginary enemy. We are now back to square one/Oct 7 2001 when the target was Al Qaeda in Afghani/Pakistan. He is merely doing – and not something I like either – what W should have done and won

I am not sure Mr. Obama should have won the Nobel Peace Prize.  I doubt he thinks so either. And as he sends troops into no-win Afghanistan it is an even harder accolade to accept or deserve. Ah well. Unfortunately they do not yet have a Nobel War Prize.  Or a Nobel Door Prize.

Dreams From My Father November 10, 2008

I had a wonderful father.  The beliefs he offered me and showed me  have stayed with me to this moment in time.  He was a Boston Irish Catholic intellectual with all the baggage that carries.  Short of cash and far too smart for his own good at a time when university was for the very rich., he never got his degree.  He always said his love of books was due to the fact his parents both worked in a book bindery and stayed employed during the Depression.  He passed it on to me.  He was a serious smart ass and a great wit.  He drank.  He was a snob and a social climber – the networker of all time. He was a  metrosexual before the word was ever coined.  He had quite a few jobs that made great stories. At eight he learned to drive and smoke.  He drove a hearse to and from the family speakeasy because he looked “mature” and they needed a sober driver.  He rappelled off the walls from under his bedroom window  and transported bathtub gin back and forth.  He told me the secret of a good bathtub gin was Red Lion Juniper Juice.  I was young enough to be impressed.  He was a butler. He went to Washington DC to work as a copywriter for the Washington Post and he was good. This was before we entered the war.  His cronies were all  admen and crackpots and they ran in a pack.  Not chasing women but more after the joy of the times they were in and the place they were in them. When in NYC he frequented Spivy’s Roof.  One day he wandered through the public rooms of the White House and saw Eleanor Roosevelt in her office.  He said hello and the next thing he knew they had a standing lunch date.  He revered her and I have no doubt he entertained her greatly.  One night, drunk on a Potomac golf course near the War College one of his cronies played reveille on his trumpet at 3 a.m.; the lights went on and the lot of them staggered like jackrabbits to get outta’ town.    He met  and courted  my mother in 1942 and two people could not have been less suited to one another – but it was war time and every GI wanted a sweetheart. He had been drafted (bad vision and flat feet did not keep him out of this man’s army)  and after resisting Sam’s call  he finally showed up with a pair of boxers and a quart of gin.  During the war they married and it went south from there but not before they had me and Boston apartment full of Heywood Wakefield furniture.  He wrote a book about his experiences in the Army and it was indeed published.  I have always been proud of this achievement because he was so happy about it.  He was an officer and a gentleman.  We’ll skip the re-up and the wrong assignment and the subsequent divorce – it was dismal but I did eventually wind up living with father in New York City and thus began my education in 1958.  My father was a Kennedy Democrat and rightly so.  As he liked to remind people he was born 3 days and 26 miles from JFK in 1917.  It didn’t take long for me to become just as enthralled.

During this period in my life my father sold Winfield China and his territory was New Rochelle and Mt. Vernon; his clients were middle class NegroesHe chose his territory.  He often took me with him and as a consequence my only experience with the Black community as a young teen was lemonade, cookies and a serious caveat to be quiet and respectful.  What I saw were working people with nice flats and good jobs. They didn’t seem very different to me than any other people.  Civil rights occupied his conscience and troubled him deeply.  From this I learned things I assumed everyone knew.  I was angry when I found that was not the case. The March on Washington was my father’s march.  And mine.  He had a seat – spiritually – at every sit-in and our worst falling out was when I called him a bigot after he told me I couldn’t go to Selma.  The reason: he was afraid white people would kill me.  He taught me the N-word was the worst word a person could utter. His beliefs and moral outrage never left me and when Barack Obama ran for president I could imagine how my father would have felt.  And I was sad because he didn’t live to experience this sublime moment in the advancement of his cherished thoughts.  I know I voted for Obama, at least partly, as a result of my father’s wisdom.  And I know that I cast my ballot for Obama and his platform from a deep and precious place – a place that would never have been born and never have flourished without the dreams from my father.

Pro-Abortion Groups, John? What Exactly Do They Do? October 17, 2008

I was wrong.  Last night I watched McCain who twitches and grimaces like he has Tourette’s and Democrat nominee Obama – who looks like an ad from GQ,  hash it out – again.  It was painful.  I think maybe just hearing it might have been better.  Watching was painful.  And just when I thought they had said everything they could – again - McCain started using a term I was not familiar with.  And he used it more than once and I thought he had invented it for the debate.  Silly me.  Apparently “Pro-Abortion” is used by many groups who distort the actual meaning of Pro-Choice.  Here’s two I found – and I didn’t think I would actually find many because it is such an idiotic concept – who would even try.  Well I was wrong.
 http://www.hli.org/article_ny_abortion_bullying_mexico.html
http://www.cirtl.org/lifefoes.htm
are merely two groups who actively use this term to describe people who want to choose their own actions.  As offensive as I find it,  I also question the veracity of the term itself. It cannot be an accurate  because who can force anyone to have an abortion?  Pro-choice groups do not use guns, or bombs or threats to coerce anyone into an abortion.  Period.  You may have a bully of a parent or husband who tries or succeeds – but that is family.  No group I know of – who advocates choice wants you to have an abortion if you would like to have a baby instead. No group who is pro-choice targets pro-life groups for murder.  Pro-Choice is a name for people who think having a child or an abortion is private and no ones business but ones own.  Pro-Choice says that prevention of unwanted pregnancies is the best way to reduce the need for abortion.  They offer choices about preventing unplanned pregnancies – including abstinence.  Pro-Life offers one thing and one thing only.  A baby.  Wanted or Unwanted.  Healthy or Compromised. Married or Unmarried.  Even rape victims and even mothers at high risk for death.  This is pretty much what they want.  And now John McCain wants  us to accept the term Pro-Abortion and it is simply incorrect.    John McCain – who must have folks vetting his terms and speeches – knows that NARAL and Planned Parenthood are NOT Pro-Abortion.  John McCain knows that moderate GOP voters know this too.  So he comes across as an idiot, a shill and a stooge for the Right Wing Christians.  Do I think he is all those things – I don’t know – I just know what he sounded like to me.

A table on Abortion law – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia  spells it out pretty clearly and there are many countries who do not allow abortion on request but they do have exceptions that are certainly civilized enough to take into consideration circumstances and health issues. Abortions by country on wiki is a very good way to understand more about the subject and how it is handled elsewhere.  Italy says yes across the board.  I find this ironic.
But for the most part there are exceptions and there are considerations.  Another quick search under the words “foreign abortion + bombings” turned up one in Bangladesh.  Pro Life means not killing doctors, nurses and patients
and whatever collateral damage (living things) gets caught in these acts of terror.
There is no Pro-abortion movement and John McCain knew it when he used the term.  Pandering to one segment of society is not equal rights.  It enslaves women.  It encourages and incites riots, killing and acts of domestic terrorism.
Pro-”Life” activists are militant; they put a higher value on some lives than others.  They do what domestic terrorists do – they kill, they maim and they deny every American equality.  Pro-life is not about life – it’s about control and subjugation. When those wing nuts start talking about what to do with all the babies they are insisting on – then I may hear them out.

For the record, abortion is not  birth control but, it is a medical decision that should be made first by a woman and her doctor.  Republicans spend more time trying to get into women’s pants than any other bunch I have encountered.   For a party that wants less government they certainly want to set one up in my uterus unilaterally and decides what comes in and what goes out.
Embracing personal choice is voting and worshipping and speaking on terms protected by the Constitution.  Maybe the snake handling, holy rollers and fundamentalists should read the Constitution instead of scripture.   And maybe John McCain should work on keeping his foot out of his mouth.

Now that there is a hint of a peep that some GOP insiders are thinking Snarky Sarah should fall off the GOP ticket, I am waiting with bated breath to see if and how she does it.  Anyone who considers interaction with Canada a qualification for determining foreign policy has severe brain freeze. (And when was this contretemps with Canada/Alaska and why didn’t we know about it?)  As far as I can tell the closest the Snark has come to foreign relations is with her Kenyan houngan Rev Muthee.  She is a bad print of a smoke and mirrors magician who coughs on the smoke and walks into the mirrors while the rabbits run away.  Since neither Palin nor McCain know enough to get real – here’s  hoping the Grand Old Party pulls the plug on this fiasco without delay. Having a nice rack is not a qualification for much anymore since you can get a nice rack for about $5,000.  Anyone can buy those pricey Peggy Hill glasses and teasing hair is not actually a talent. Neither is having five kids. She should, drop – literally – out – ASAP.

As an aside; while McCain stood and repeated himself Friday night, I wondered what his running mate thought of the many times he mentioned “earmarks”.  Sarah’s earmark hobby doesn’t make her an expert on that either- pork barrel patronage is simply NOT kosher – even in Alaska.
So here we have a campaign concert in contradictions and a election rife with  three of the most un-PC components of hypocrisy alive and active in the United States.  Let’s review:

AGEISM:
McCain is too old.  What is too old?  Too old for what?  Why is he too old? When was there an age cap on running for office. Who declared this to be a fact? You know who was too old?  Strom Thurmond.

And if it’s McCain’s health that is used as a clean up for ageism – let’s not forget “Just A Heartbeat Away from Another Heart Attack” Dick Cheney – who is still just several pace makers away from the White House.  Or the handsome and down to earth Ronald Reagan who may or may not have spent a good deal of his two terms in the throes of Alzheimer’s and or naps. Every time they mention McCain’s 72 year old heart it’s a slur.  Like it or not.
RACISM:
Obama is Black.  Obama is not Black enough. Obama is too black.  Obama has a Black wife and two Black children. .  Obama’s mother was white.  What about his middle name?  Obama is an elitist person of color (That is just a crafty word for uppity.)  Obama went to Harvard.  Is someone jealous? Seriously, doesn’t someone with 9 houses seem elite?  Even on an ordinary day I would not use the word elite to describe Obama but I would consider the McCain’s nouveau riche and they probably think they are elite. I know most middle of the road Americans are pondering how it came to pass that a dark looking man is running for president.  Some are scared and will not say so.  Others are forming militias.  If Obama was white it wouldn’t matter.  He might even slip by if his father had been white and his mother black but it is what it is. This is racist and every time someone mentions Black in a “roll your eyes” tone of voice or calls him the N word among “friends” – it’s a form of slur.  Like it or not.

SEXISM
She’s a Woman.  She has children.  She grabbed the main chance.  She was middle-aged.  She went to law school.  She wore pants suits.  Her hair was wrong.  Who does her hair?  Who chooses her outfits. What about those hairbands?   Look at that rack.  She pre-menopausal, she’s menopausal, she’s dried up.
She hunts and shoots.  She stood by her cheating man. Could be Palin or Hillary -  they have vaginas in common  We do not want the Senate floor to be turned into the vagina monologues* This is all sexist and thus slurs.  Like it or not.

There it is, the clock ticking away like a bomb.  And as loyal Americans we stand true to our history, culture, hypocrisy, fears, attitudes, religions and bank accounts -  at it again.   Every four years.  Like it or not.
* With a thank you to Eve Ensler for the creation of the term.

It is tempting to write about Sarah’s rousing speech last night but I have found a blog that is even better and I offer that link for you to click and read.  Read all of it.  And you will enjoy the other posts on the site.  These are Anne Kilkenny’s comments on Sarah Palin and they’re not very uplifting – but you judge.  Having this creepy, extremist woman one heartbeat away from running the country is a hideous thought. Anne Kilkenny is my hero.
http://My2Buck$.wordpress.com

Another extra smart friend of mine who blogs on the Huffpost.com - made the observation that Obama took so much heat for his Rev. Wright association that he had to leave his own church and the Rev. rightly resigned.  Sweet Slithery Sarah belonged to the Alaska Independence Party - http://www.akip.org,  a secessionist group that still exists.  Do None Dare Call This TreasonWhy has this gotten so little mention in the press?  Sauce for the gander is also sauce for the goose.   She must have agreed with their platform or else why join?  Was she perhaps seeing herself as President of that Country-state – Palaska?  This is a hard question and she needs to answer it.  People like her because she’s a babe?  That may be true – but she is a scary snake of a babe and as I mentioned a few days ago – beauty queens are mean girls.

Sarah’s speech may have roused a roomful of rich White people – she is part of the stuff white people like,  but it terrified me.  She was loaded for bear and she has public speaking down.  But so did Hitler – yes I said Hitler and that’s exactly who I meant – that man could speechify too.

Let’s make certain that between today and the middle of October cooler, smarter people prevail in the GOP and find McCain someone appropriate to be his ticket buddy. Male or female – Just not Sarah Palin.  No. no. no

Take the time to email your local paper and ask them to give Sarah’s party antics the same microscopic scrutiny that Obama’s church going got.  Remind them of the Equal Time thing.  And don’t ask.  Demand.
